You hummed along to the song playing on your IPod as you made your way through nearly deserted park. Your breath created little clouds in the cold evening air. The sun was quickly setting now, and you could feel the oncoming snowstorm fast approaching.
You pulled your thin jacket more tightly around you. The weathermen had tricked you. They told you it was going to be in the 60s, and only drop to 50 during the night.
50 degrees my frozen ass.
You stopped. There was someone on the path, far enough that you could only make out their basic form. They appeared to be…………twirling?
Your eyebrows knit together and you cocked your head slightly, before jumping slightly when the next song on your IPod started blaring into your ear.
You sighed and kept walking towards the spinning figure. Soon you had caught up with them. Your breath caught in your throat as you watched the man.
He was young, about your age, with blonde hair that swung gently around his face. His eyes were closed, and he wore an expression of pure bliss.
A smile found its way onto your face as you watched him. You turned off your IPod and put it away, content with simply watching him. You couldn’t help but giggle.
The man’s eyes snapped open, and he immediately stopped spinning. You were entranced by his purple eyes that caught the moon’s glow just so.
His eyes were wide with fear as he looked at you.
“I-I’m S-sorry, I-I-“ You found his stuttering adorable.
“No, I’m sorry, I was just passing and I saw you, and you looked so happy. I shouldn’t have been staring like that.” You looked at the ground, thankful he wouldn’t be able to see the red tint on your cheeks.
“N-no, don’t be upset!”
“I’m not upset!” You looked back up at him, smiling softly. “My name is (name), what’s yours?”
“I-I’m Matthew.” Matthew looked at the ground nervously. He was rarely seen, but just in case, he only went to the park to dance at night. But now someone had seen him, and you were so pretty too…
“What’re you doing out here at night? It’s freezing.”
“I-I just, I-I,”
You interrupted him. “Wanna get some coffee or something with me?”
Matthew looked at you for a moment, then nodded meekly. You set towards the café at the end of the park.
What the hell did I do?! I don’t ask random guys that I meet at the park at night to have coffee! Am I insane?! That must be it, I’m just losing it! The walk was spent in silence. Matthew seemed perfectly fine with that.
Matthew held the café door open for you, and you sighed as the warmth and smell of coffee hit you. You two found a table and sat down. The waitress came over and asked you what you wanted. She then tried to leave without taking Matthew’s order.
You gave her what-the-hell-is-wrong-with-you look before motioning towards the man. She seemed to have a hard time focusing on him, but eventually managed to hear what he wanted over the din in the small café.
“So you like twirling in the park at night-“ you giggled, “what else do you like?”
“I-uh, w-well, I-I like music.” He said it almost too quietly for you to hear, and it took you a moment to register what he’d said.
“Me too! I love music! I don’t think I could live without music, I mean that’s why I started playing (instrument).”You smiled. Matthew stared at you with rapt attention.
“You p-play (instrument)?”
“I l-love (instrument)!” Matthew flashed you a smile for the first time and you nearly fell out of your chair. He smiled so brightly, it was gorgeous…and infectious. Soon you were grinning.
You sat (at/with) your (instrument), concentrating furiously. One more note ‘till your first real song would be complete. You made a sound of frustration, doing a little table-flip in your mind.
Matthew came up behind you and slid his arms around your waist, resting his chin on your shoulder. You took a deep breath, relaxing into his arms.
“You’ll get it.” Matthew kissed your cheek gently.
You smiled. “I love you, Matty.”
“I love you too.” You felt him smile at the nickname.
“I made a special new kind of pancake, would you l-like to try it?” Matthew hardly stuttered around you anymore, after all you had been dating for nearly five months.
“I’d love too.” You could almost see the relief that washed over your boyfriend.
He led you to the kitchen. “They’re banana and blueberry pancakes, with a touch of cinnamon and some maple syrup.”
“They sound, and smell, delicious!” Matthew pulled you up to the kitchen counter, spearing a bit of pancake on a fork.
“Open your mouth, please.” You smiled and complied.
A piece of fluffy heaven was placed in your mouth. It had just the right amount of banana, balanced with the berries and you had never tasted anything so amazing. Matthew was eagerly awaiting your response. You swallowed.
“I have literally never tasted anything so amazing.” Matthew smiled and hugged you. He pulled back, then turned red as an idea popped into his head. But he could never be so bold…could he be?
“Um, y-you have something just there.” He pointed at your lip. You went to wipe it off, but were stopped.
“I-I’ll get it.” He moved closer to you, turning red at an incredible pace. You raised your eyebrow slightly before you felt his lips touch gently across yours. You smiled and leaned into him. All too soon, you broke apart.
“I love you, Matthew.”
“I love you too, (name)”.
