The arguing of all of the countries at the world meeting had turned into white noise quite some time ago as you sat with your head in your hands and your elbows on the large conference table. You sighed and looked up, running your hand through your (h/l), (h/c) hair.
You heard an impossibly quiet sound and turned towards Canada. You were one of the only people who could see him, let alone hear him.
“I’m sorry about this, (Name). I-I didn’t t-think it would be this bad.” You strained to hear the last bit.
You were at the world conference at Canada’s request. The two of you had been friends for a long time, though now you were beginning to wonder why you were enduring this torture for him. Oh, yeah, you’d gone and acquired a crush on him.
“It’s not a problem.” you forced a smile, “I think I’ll just go get some air.”
“I’ll come with you.”
With that you and Matthew slipped quietly away from the table and out the door. You were only outside for a few moments before hearing a large bang that made the entire building rumble.
You shot a look at the Canadian next to you that so clearly said ‘Oh my god, what the hell?’ that you might’ve said it. You rushed back into the building, Matthew at your heels. You burst into the conference room to find it completely empty.
“Where is everyone?” you said, wondering if you should look under the table.
“God damn it, Arthur. The hell did you do?” Alfred’s voice rang clearly through the room, making you squeal and jump backwards into Matthew, blushing when he caught you.
“I-I don’t know! It wasn’t supposed to do that!” The angry Englishman’s voice sounded from the far corner of the room.
“Stupid bastardo!” There was no mistaking Romano’s voice.
“What. Is. Going. On?!” you demanded, stepping away from Matthew again. There was silence for a moment.
“Vell, ve’re invisible, Frau. I thought it vas obvious.” Gilbert sounded close to you.
“Ve! Invisible!” You could just, well not literally, see Italy jumping up and down.
“Invisible?! Firstly, not possible. Secondly, how?!” you replied.
“Well, if Francis hadn’t pissed off Arthur, then Arthur wouldn’t have tried to work his magic stuff, and we wouldn’t be invisible.” Alfred spoke again.
You went to sit down, trying to digest what you’d just learned. The seat felt odd…
“Ohonhonhonhon, a bit fresh, non?” You screamed and jumped off invisible France, just as the BTT started laughing.
“Can you reverse zis, Arthur?” You recognized Germany’s voice.
“I don’t know, but if I there’s a reversal spell, I’ll need some time to figure it out.”
“Some time? What does that mean?!” Alfred yelled.
“I don’t know, you bloody git! A day or two, maybe.”
“A day or two?! Ugh!” A chair leaned back on its hind legs and you figured it was Alfred.
“So, you’ll just be invisible ‘till then? Is there some way to, oh, I don’t know, distinguish you in the mean time?” you asked.
“Uh, well, we can see each other, but there’s not really anything we can do about you or Matthew, love.” Replied Arthur.
“Francis, Antonio, you realize how awesome zis is right? Keseseseses..” Oh god, invisible BTT. You face palmed. There were going to be some pissed and confused girls in (city name). Francis and Antonio caught on as well, and soon they were laughing full out.
“We should all stay together.” You offered, feeling unabashedly wise. Three no’s echoed from the corner the BTT were sitting in. You sighed.
“Fine, but no getting into trouble, and you’re all spending the night at my house tonight. Curfew’s at ten.”
“You sure this is a good idea, (Name)?” Alfred spoke.
“As good as any, at this point.”
You turned to look at Canada, who’d been silent through this exchange. He was beaming. You’d never seen him so happy.
You sat on your couch, a cup of coffee in hand. Matthew was sitting next to you, still beaming. Finally you couldn’t take the not-knowing anymore.
“Why are you so happy, Matthew?” He turned to look at you.
“Don’t you see? They’re all invisible! No one can see them! They won’t overshadow me anymore, or at least not today! People will notice me! They’ll feel how I feel, and maybe they’ll see me…”
“I see you…” you looked down as you said it, blushing.
An awkward silence fell.
You screamed as a cold bucket of water emptied itself on your head. You heard Gilbert’s signature laugh, and soon Francis and Antonio had joined in.
“I’m going to kill you! How did you even get in?” you yelled.
You heard three pairs of footsteps running away. You groaned, and then noticed Matthew, who was redder than a tomato and looking at everything else but you. You looked down, and realized your shirt was completely soaked. And transparent.
“I’m going to go change” you said, blushing.
Matthew made a sound and you left. Just as you walked thought the door to your room, you heard snickering. You kept walking, going into your bathroom and grabbing a can spray-foam soap. Walking back out, you heard the snickering again.
You aimed and fired, soap coating the three men in the corner. They shouted in surprise, the soap clinging to their invisible forms. They ran.
“Hah! Got you now” you yelled, running after them.
Matthew watched the soap covered trio running into the living room with you hot on their heels carrying a frying pan with bewilderment.
“Wha-“ Matthew was interrupted by you bringing the pan down hard over who you thought was Gilbert, but was actually Antonio.
“Ow! Chica, that hurt!”
The front door opened, revealing absolutely no one, but the smell of hamburgers wafted in. Arthur took in the sight before him. You were soaking wet, frozen looking at the door with a frying pan in your hands that was aimed at the three foam-soap covered men in front of you, who he guessed were the BTT.
Arthur walked, rolling his eyes when Alfred tried to laugh but instead choked on his hamburger. And then you were running into the kitchen. Matthew looked completely lost.
You came back out of the kitchen with a bottle of soap and water. You sprayed the soap and water out in front of you, making it turn into foam, catching Alfred full on and half of Arthur.
“Bloody hell! I’m holding a book! Ugh, look at my clothes..”
“Sorry Arthur, it’s the only way I’ve found to keep track of you.” You said. Alfred held his soapy hamburger up, tears filling his eyes.
“I’m sorry, burger. You didn’t deserve this.” Alfred then proceeded to eat the burger, soap and all. You stifled a laugh before turning to Arthur and asking him what he wanted.
“I need Antonio to translate this for me.”
“Oh, okay. Antoni-“ You looked back at where the BTT had been standing. They were gone. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”
So the search began. Arthur and Alfred took the upstairs after stashing the book and the rest of Alfred’s burgers away, and you took the downstairs, armed with soap and water.
You peered around the corner into the guest room. Nothing there. You crept along the hallway, coming up on the bathroom. You pressed your back to the wall for a moment before jumping out and aiming your weapons into the bathroom.
No one there. You walked into the kitchen. There was a bit of foam on the fridge handle. Found you… Come out…
Arthur screamed, though it took you a minute to figure out it was him, as it was an eerily high pitched scream. You darted upstairs.
Alfred was laughing hysterically, while Gilbert, Antonio, and Francis were rolling on the floor clutching their stomachs. You could see why. Arthur was covered in just about every liquid that had been previously occupying your fridge. You tried not to laugh as he uttered a long string of insults.
“Antonio, Arthur needs your help.” You said, holding back giggles.
“Si” was all Antonio managed to get out before dissolving into another fit of giggles. Matthew came up the stairs behind you, and you saw a small grin play on his lips.
“Right, everyone, find a place to sleep, the couch, a chair, guest bedroom, whatever.” You called out over the sea of floating plastic cups. You had devised a system to tell the countries apart by giving them each aplastic cup with their name on it.
“Can ve sleep vith you, Frau?” asked Gilbert in a suggestive voice. You rolled your eyes and shook your head. The countries all started walking through the house, all except Arthur, who was chanting in the other room.
Soon everyone was asleep. It was difficult to move around the house without waking anyone, but you managed it, slipping out of the window and onto your roof. You sighed, enjoying the calm, a warm summer breeze slipping around you. You heard a sound as Matthew climbed onto the roof and sat beside you.
“Hey, I thought you were asleep.” You gave him a small smile.
“No, couldn’t sleep.” He stared at you, turning red when you caught him.
“It’s been an insane day.” You closed your eyes.
“Yeah. But it’s been the best day ever.”
“Really, how so?” you turned to look at the Canadian, your (e/c) eyes meeting his violet ones.
“Well, invisible BTT is entertaining, but I-I realized t-that y-you s-s-see me.” Matthew looked immediately down, turning every shade of red possible. You looked at him and smiled, not realizing what he meant.
“I-I-I l-love you, (Name).” He looked a bit like a deer in headlights as he waited for your response.
Your heart skipped a beat. You simply leaned over and pressed your lips against his. You pulled away, smiling, and hugged him, resting your head on his shoulder, and looking up at the stars.
“I love you too, Mattie.”
You woke up, opening your eyes to see a bright blue sky. You and Matthew had fallen asleep on the roof. You looked down at his sleeping form as you sat up, your back protesting the whole way. Matthew looked so peaceful.
You smiled and kissed his forehead. His eyes fluttered open, and he smiled. You lay with him for a few minutes more.
“I’m going to check on everyone.” You whispered. Matthew nodded, stretching.
You climbed back into the house, sneaking down the stairs and into the living room. There were fully visible countries lying everywhere, snoring happily away. Arthur was leaning against the wall, his eyes bloodshot.
“I got it.” He said with a tired smile. You made your way over to him.
“Yes you did.”
You left Arthur sleeping and went ‘round the house checking on everyone else. You found the BTT cuddling each other like teddy bears, and Alfred drooling on his last burger.
Soon you went back out onto the roof. Matthew was still sitting there, looking at the sky.
“Arthur got it, everyone’s visible again.” You said as you sat next to him. Matthew slipped his arm around your shoulders, pulling you close.
“I love you, (Name).”
“I love you too, Matthew.”
